Character Personality
It’s hard to crack the shell he has formed around him. His shoulders slumped and his eyes adverted to the floor, grass, water, anywhere but the face of those he doesn’t know. Contact as simple as catching a glimpse means to take danger head on. Constantly assuming he’s being judged, afraid of what others are thinking, his worst fears coming to life as he walks past strangers. Simply put, he is shy, but also lonely. What he wouldn’t give to have someone to call after work or during the weekend, just to see how that person is doing. To succeed in dissolving the isolation that consumes him he tries to be friendly, but it never seems to work. Though when it does, he’s the best friend anyone could have. Trustworthy, loyal, honest, but lurking beneath the surface is a temper as wild as a forest fire. One minute he loves you and the next you’re on his hate list because you accidentally bought him the wrong cigarettes. Of course it wasn’t your fault, but he’s controlling, demanding and must have his way like a two year old child. When he does cool down, though it takes awhile, regret swells like a hurricane and he’s groveling at the feet of the person he deemed in the wrong, begging for redemption.

Character Background
An only child with divorced parents before he was five. They only married because he was born. A worthless, alcoholic father he has purely bitter feelings for because he couldn’t take the time to say, “I love you son.” Really, it was as easy as a phone call, but he couldn’t afford to keep a roof over his head let alone throw a few quarters into a payphone. His whole life was drown with alcohol and cigarettes and drained him of all money and his son left to watch him wither away on the streets. Mother up and left him because drinking was more important and remarried some jerk. He brought along a garbage son that was no better. Hell, he was the worst of them all. He brought drugs into the family, ended up in a trailer park with a whore that drove off with his truck just to get money off the repossession. Other than Mother, his entire family (if they could be called that) is a disaster and the whole household was argument central because one kid was better than the other. Of course, Shou was deemed the “bad” kid, even though he lived a moderate life the entire time he lived in hell. Perhaps if he had taken up heroine we would have been the “good” kid.

During his early teenage years, Shou took up partying. He experimented with a few drugs here and there, only got caught by his parents, but it was never his thing. Just like his father, he was a drinker. Through all of high school, and sometimes on school days, a bottle of vodka was his best friend. No one noticed, not his friends or family, but he was spiraling out of control. Depressed, hateful, and hurting himself, he was the disaster he watched when he grew up. When he finally realized it, he dropped everything cold turkey, except smoking. Cigarettes were the only thing that could keep him relaxed and calm. They were better than the anti-depressants the doctors tried to put him on. It wasn’t the best, but it was better than the ditch he was headed in. Nowadays, he has learned how to control his alcoholism and hopes to succeed in the teaching field.
